“Blooming Creativity: Completing the 30 Flowers in My Style Challenge”
As the vibrant colours of Summer fade into autumnal hues, I am looking back on the creative journey I embarked upon throughout September. It was a month filled with petals, petals, and more petals as I took on the “30 Flowers in My Style” drawing challenge on Instagram, thoughtfully curated and hosted by the incredibly talented Lucia of Deinki Studio. This challenge, which invited artists to draw a different flower each day, was not only a delightful exploration of botanical beauty but also a challenge to stay consistent (I don’t often struggle to create, but I do struggle to consistently post on social media).
This is Lucia and two of her favourite designs for the month:

Here are a few highlights from my journey through the floral wonderland:
A Slightly Out-of-Order Bloom: Life often gets in the way of our creative endeavours, and in my case, it meant taking some flowers out of order. While I initially planned to follow the daily prompts religiously, I quickly realised that creativity sometimes blooms when you least expect it. So, I allowed myself the freedom to skip ahead and draw a flower that spoke to me at that moment. It was a reminder that art should be about joy and spontaneity, and you don’t always have to follow the rules.

Bouquets of Inspiration: Some days, I couldn’t resist the urge to combine two prompts into one pattern. The challenge provided me with a framework, but I found joy in blending flowers, colours, and concepts to create unique compositions. This was my way of infusing my personal style into the challenge, and it was also an efficient way to do multiple flowers in the same amount of time.

Just Two Days Late: Despite my best intentions, I did finish the challenge two days late. Initially, I was a bit disappointed in myself, but then I realized that I wouldn’t have been happy with what I wouldβve shared if I had rushed it. Those extra days allowed me to better enjoy the process, add more details, and refine my patterns to a level that I was happy with.
The challenge encouraged me to try drawing flowers that I otherwise wouldn’t have chosen if they weren’t part of a challenge. Even though I believe you should feel free to take time with your art, I found that creating a lot of art quickly for the month helped me to not overthink my decisions. You can see the rest of my illustrations and patterns on my Instagram.

As I look back on my 30-day journey through the world of flowers, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to connect with other artists through an art challenge. I adored seeing what other people on Instagram had chosen to do with the prompts.
So here’s to the next challenge, the next set of petals waiting to be brought to life, and to being open minded about what to draw next π
Until next time
